A recent software update to thegazette.com inconvenienced some Gazette subscribers online. What was supposed to be a very minor update ended up forcing some subscribers to log out, do technical tasks and then log back in. Once subscribers refreshed their browsers, they were able to access their subscriptions without incident.
We’re grateful to Gazette subscribers for their patience and feedback.
Why you have to clear cookies on your browser
Sometimes when a website does not seem to be working properly, it may be the fault of an outdated “cookie.” A cookie is a small piece of text that is sent to your browser to save information for the next time you visit. Deleting this cookie can help reset your experience.
The solution for most subscribers who had issues was to clear their browser’s cookies, then login in again. Cookies are important for saving information from your visit to a website. Things like a shopping cart or a login use cookies to offer a convenient experience to visitors. People tend to like it when websites remember them.
Technical Terms
Browser: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox and Safari are commonly used browsers. They all you to navigate and ‘browse’ the web.
Web-based cookies: A cookie is a small piece of text that is sent to your browser to save information for the next time you visit.
