A teenage girl faces a felony charge after she allegedly sold a prescription drug on school grounds in Cedar Rapids.
Kaylyn R. Moon, 18, of Cedar Rapids, has been charged with delivery of a controlled substance. She is accused of selling Lorazepam on Oct. 27 in a parking lot at Kennedy High School, police said.
According to court documents, police received information about Moon selling prescription drugs and set up a "controlled buy" with the use of a confidential informant. Officers arrested Moon after she sold the informant five Lorazepam pills, according to a police report.
Lorazepam, known by the brand name Ativan, is used to relieve anxiety and insomnia, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It is a potent drug that can be abused to achieve a "high."
Officer Melissa Henderson, a police spokeswoman, said prescription drug abuse by teenagers is rare in Cedar Rapids.
"Over the years, they have become a little more accessible, but we don't have a big prescription drug problem with young people," Henderson said.
Moon was fingerprinted and photographed at the Police Station and released to a family member. She was scheduled to make a court appearance Friday.
