Indigenous Iowa hosts a public forum titled, 'Why is Standing Rock Important?” a 7 p.m. today at the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St. The program is free to the public.
The forum features speakers from the Meskwaki Nation and others who have traveled to Standing Rock, North Dakota or have been involved in attempts to block the Dakota Access pipeline.
Speakers include Mary Young Bear, Donnielle Wanatee, Stephanie Bad Soldier Snow, Dawson Davenport, Leah Slick-Driscoll and Sarah Anne Young Bear Brown. They are to discuss their experiences, their understanding of the issues and how this might impact the lives of others.
