Semi crashing into pond temporarily closes Highway 151 eastbound
MARION - Portions of eastbound Highway 151 were closed for a crash Thursday morning after a semi-trailer truck went off the road and into a pond near Jordan's Grove Road.
The driver, 38-year-old Kostyantyn Knysh, of Plainfield, Ill., was extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders and transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
According to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, at 10:51 a.m. Thursday officers responded to the report of a semi that had slid off the road into a pond near Dubuque Road just east of Jordan's Grove Road.
Deputies closed Highway 151 eastbound between Highway 13 and Stone Road. Traffic was then rerouted to Highway 13 North to County Home Road.
Upon arrival, police say that they found the semi off the road submerged under water in the pond. Emergency responders removed Knysh through the roof of the truck, police said.
Linn County Sheriff's Rescue 57, Marion police and fire departments, Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Iowa Department of Transportation, Area Ambulance Service and the Linn County Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team assisted at the scene.
Police say the incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
