A single-vehicle accident Thursday morning put an Iowa City woman in the hospital, authorities said.
A dispatcher confirmed all deputies on holiday duty responded to 5741 East Dunkerton Rd., just west of Dunkerton, around 9:30 a.m. Thursday for a single-vehicle rollover crash. Deputies said the driver told responders she was reaching down in her car for something when she lost control of the vehicle and drove off the side of the road. The car became airborne, then hit a ditch and rolled three or four times before coming to rest in a field.
Dunkerton firefighters had to extricate the woman from her car. It appeared she had been trapped in the car for at least 10 minutes, a deputy said. The woman was alert and responsive after the crash, but was taken to Allen Hospital in Waterloo for treatment. She was subsequently transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, but the deputy said he was not aware of her condition.
