An inmate at the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility inmate is now facing felony drug charges resulting from a traffic stop in North Liberty in February, police say.
According to a criminal complaint, police stopped Jeremy S. Lafler, 31, at 21 Holiday Lodge Rd. in North Liberty Feb. 11 for having the wrong license plates. He then fled from the traffic stop.
Upon searching Lafler's vehicle, police said they located syringes and items used to manufacture methamphetamine in plain view in the back seat. A narcotics task force then discovered an active meth lab in a backpack, and police determined that precursors, including pseudophedrine, were present.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation found more than five grams of precursors consistent with the "one pot" variation of meth manufacturing, police say.
A witness told police that Lafler and another person had been manufacturing the drug in a car in Lafler's driveway.
Lafler is accused of possession of controlled substance precursors, a class D felony, and a controlled substance violation, a class B felony.
