Noises woke up a Jackson County couple Monday morning, and when the husband went to check, he was confronted by a masked man with a shotgun, authorities said.
Deputies responded around 12:50 a.m. to the attempted burglary at 1218 49th St. in rural Monmouth. Resident Mike Franzen told authorities his wife woke him up after hearing noises outside the house.
Franzen opened a garage door and found the suspect armed with a shotgun. The suspect fired once, hitting the garage door but missing Franzen, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspect, who was wearing a green coat, blue jeans and a black ski mask, fled the scene after firing the shotgun.
Authorities are seeking the help from the public to identify the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jackson County sheriff's office at (563) 652-3312.
