A Mount Vernon man is accused assaulting another man with a broken bottle, causing serious lacerations and permanent scars.
Dillon P. Lass, 20, of 1052 Hwy. 1 NE, has been charged with willful injury causing serious injury after the assault early Sunday morning. The attack was so violent that surgery was necessary to reattach the victim's ear and mend a cut on his lip, according to court documents.
Police responded around 4:40 a.m. to a large disturbance in the 100 block of 66th Ave. SW. When they arrived, they stopped a vehicle that was leaving and found Ryan Corkin, 20, bleeding from the head and face. He went to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment.
Investigators spoke with Corkin the next day, and he told them he was leaving a party when he saw Lass pushing some other people in the parking lot. Corkin told police he tried to calm Lass down, but Lass turned on him.
Lass is accused of striking Corkin several times with the jagged edge of a broken bottle, causing severe lacerations to his left ear and lip that will result in permanent scars, according to a criminal complaint. Two other people got involved and struck Corkin with their fists, police said.
Corkin told police he lost consciousness during the attack, and when he woke up, the suspects were gone.
Lass was arrested at his residence around 11:30 p.m. Monday and taken to the Linn County Jail. He posted bond Tuesday and was released, a jail spokeswoman said.
An investigation was continuing, police said.
