Police eventually used a Taser to control a man who answered the door wearing no pants Wednesday morning.
Shortly before 6 a.m., police responded to a disturbance at 340 16th St. SE, No. 6. A man was reportedly yelling inside his apartment.
Police said the man was still yelling when they arrived, so they knocked on the door. Steven Hoard, 32, answered the door.
"He had no clothes on except for a polo t-shirt," Sgt. Denni Randall said. "So he was pretty much nude."
According to the police report, Hoard was flailing his arms and not making any sense with his words. Randall said he swung at one of the officers, and the officer blocked the punch. He then kicked the second officer, causing him to sprain his ankle, police said. One of the officers deployed a Taser to subdue him.
Hoard was taken to a local hospital, which is the normal protocol when a Taser is used. Police said Hoard was later admitted to determine what was causing his behavior, and was still there Thursday.
Upon his release from the hospital, police said Hoard would be arrested on suspicion of assault on a peace officer, assault on a peace officer with injury, interference with official acts with injury and disorderly conduct.
Officers said Hoard's apartment was "filthy and unlivable," and the matter was referred to housing inspectors.
