Man hit by gunfire in Iowa City Sunday

IOWA CITY — A man was hit by gunfire in Iowa City early Sunday.
According to a police news release, an officer driving in the 1900 block of Broadway Street around 1:36 a.m. heard multiple gunshots. One round ricocheted in front of the officer’s patrol vehicle, police said.
The officer could not determine where the shots were coming from, but saw a man running south away from Highway 6. The officer located the man in Pepperwood Plaza. He was suffering from three gunshot wounds, police said.

The officer pulled the man to cover and provided first aid until other officers arrived and the man could be safely turned over to medical personnel.
The man told police he did not know who shot him or why. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, police said.
The shooter has not been located, and police are asking the public to provide any information they know about the incident. Anyone with information — including potential security camera footage — is asked to contact the police department at (319) 356-5275.
Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any tips leading to an arrest.
