A jaywalker was struck by a pickup Friday morning on a busy Cedar Rapids street.
Police said a man attempted to cross Council Street NE from a driveway for a Casey's General Store, just south of Blairs Ferry Road NE. A northbound pickup in the turning lane hit the pedestrian around 6:40 a.m., police said.
"Fortunately, he was going pretty slow because he was approaching the (red) light," Sgt. Robert Collins said.
Police said the man was conscious and alert when emergency responders arrived. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Collins said the pickup driver had his headlights on, and was not charged in the accident. He said the pedestrian, whose name was not immediately released, would be cited for failing to use a crosswalk.
