CEDAR FALLS - A hit ABC show is coming to Iowa. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has selected an Iowa family for its next project.
On Tuesday, organizers held a pep rally to round up volunteers. Hundreds of people filled the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls to be part of the action. Many say it's the chance of a lifetime and a great opportunity to help fellow Iowans.
The exact location of the makeover is still a mystery. But the program will have a local flair: Larson Construction from Independence, Struxture Architects of Waterloo, and even University of Northern Iowa students are part of the makeover.
"We almost thought, 'oh boy, we are too busy for this,'" said Ed Larson, president of Larson Construction Company. "But then we got a film of the family, and after you see that, you just kind of want to do it. How can you not do it?" Larson said.
ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is a national reality TV show which airs Sunday nights on ABC. A team of builders and designers pick projects to transform the houses of families in need. This is the second stop the show has made in Iowa.
"It's a good opportunity to do something we love and give back to the community," said Timmy Bratvold, a senior at UNI and a member of the Construction Management Club. "We are all very excited about it, to help change someone's life, its a really special deal."
The family will be notified on Sunday, Oct. 2, when the host of the show, Ty Pennington, knocks on their door.
