New COVID cases drop to 4,176 in Iowa in past week
Number of deaths also decrease, but small increase seen in hospitalizations

Iowa on Wednesday reported 4,176 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past week, down from last week’s 4,908 new cases.
The new cases brings the state’s number of reported cases to 846,823 since the start of the pandemic in Iowa in March 2020, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health. The actual total is likely higher, given the availability of at-home test kits, which are not reported to the state.
Linn County reported 337 new cases in the past week, down from last week’s 384.

Johnson County reported 235 new cases, down from the 293 reported last week.
Hospitalizations
In the past week, COVID-19 hospitalizations in Iowa increased to 270 from last week’s 265.
The number of patients in intensive care units across the state also increased from 21 to 25, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Deaths
The state on Wednesday confirmed 28 deaths due to the virus, a decrease from the 33 deaths reported last week.
To date, 9,968 virus deaths have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020.
Linn County added two new deaths this week, and Johnson County added one.
