WATERLOO - A former Waterloo teacher has been sentenced to two years in prison for having a male student play strip video games and take chocolate syrup showers at his home.
Larry Twigg, 52, who had taught computer science at West High, was convicted of five counts of lascivious conduct with a minor following an April trial.
He had been facing up to five years behind bars - one year for each count.
This morning, Judge Jon Fister sentenced Twigg to two years in prison. Fister noted that the charges stemmed from two different incidents on separate days.
Twigg was told to turn himself in on Monday to be taken to prison.
Also under the sentence, Twigg will placed on probation for 10 years following his prison time and will have to register as a sex offender.
Twigg apologized for his actions, admitting they were “inexcusable,” but he denied they were sexually motivated.
The victim's mother said her son, who was 17 at the time of the incidents in 2009 and 2010, struggled in the aftermath, changing schools, abusing drugs and alcohol and attempting suicide.
