Coralville man accused of beating, threatening to kill woman

A Coralville man attempted to punch and strangle a woman during an argument, threatening to kill her and harm police if she called them, authorities said.
Police responded to the victim's apartment at 445 Highway 1 West No. 17 at 9 p.m. Tuesdayand found her with bruises and abrasions on her face and neck, they said. The victim told police Martel Antonio Horton, of 954 Boston Way No. 11 in Coralville, allegedly tried to strangle her and make several attempts to punch her.
According to a criminal report, Horton covered the victim's head and face with a linen while yelling threats, including, "I'll kill you," and said he would harm police if she tried to call them. Police said when the victim tried to escape, Horton grabbed her by the hair.
Horton is accused of third-offense domestic abuse assault, a class D felony, domestic assault with intent, an aggravated misdemeanor, and false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor.
Horton was convicted of second-offense domestic assault Jan. 21. He is being held at the Johnson County Jail on $25,000 cash bond.
