Cigarette cited in Washington theater fire

UPDATE: A cigarette discarded in a trash can started a fire in the projection room of the historic State Theatre in downtown Washington Wednesday morning, authorities said today.
Crews were called to the theater, at 123 E. Washington St., at about 9:20 a.m. on reports of smoke coming from the building's second story.
Fire crews reported smoke and flames when they arrived at the scene.

There are no reported injuries.
The Washington Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Office, Ainsworth Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, and Alliant Energy responded to the scene.
