Chelsea man killed in tree cutting accident

A 47-year-old Chelsea man died in the timber earlier this week while he was cutting wood at an undetermined location west of Elberon, deputies said.
According to a Tama County deputy, Michael Montgomery's wife, Tracy, last heard from him when he called her at 10 a.m. Monday. His body was found near an old Boy Scout cabin west of Elberon. Deputies said Montgomery was killed in a tree-cutting accident while out chopping firewood.
Tama County Sheriff's deputies were aided by Elberon Ambulance.
A visitation has been set for Montgomery from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. A service for Montgomery has been set for Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, 708 15th St., in Belle Plaine. Another visitation is also set for 9 a.m. Saturday in the church.
A memorial fund has been established for his daughters, Rachel and Danielle.
