26-year-old man shot to death outside 32nd Street NE home in Cedar Rapids, police say

CEDAR RAPIDS — A 26-year-old man was found shot to death Thursday night in the driveway of a home in northeast Cedar Rapids.
Police officers were called at 9:38 p.m. to the 1600 block of 32nd Street NE — next door to the Casey’s gas station at 32nd Street and Center Point Road NE — for reports of shots fired.
While en route, 911 received additional calls reporting gunfire and saying people were seen “running from a residence and leaving the scene in a vehicle,” police said.

When they arrived, police found the 26-year-old man lying in the driveway behind a parked vehicle. He had multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Despite emergency medical procedures, the man, who police was pronounced dead at approximately 10 p.m. His identity has not been released.
Police collected multiple shell casings from the backyard and near the house and detached garage. Based on the preliminary investigation, police believe the shooting was a targeted incident.
No arrests have been made.

Thursday’s death marks the city’s fifth homicide this year.
Jayson Lee Jones, 21, was shot Jan. 3 at a residence at 818 11th Ave. SE. Jones was taken by private vehicle to the hospital at about 2:16 a.m., and pronounced dead a short time later. No arrests have been made.
Katrina Latrese Brinson, 34, was stabbed to death Feb. 20 at the Rodeway Inn, 4011 16th Ave. SW, in Cedar Rapids. Brinson’s husband, Arnell States, was identified as the suspect and shot and killed by a police officer as he was running away. The officer is on administrative leave while the Linn County Attorney’s Office investigates.
Public safety spokesperson Greg Buelow said States’ death is counted as a homicide. Legally, he said, the term applies to all killings, whether criminal, accidental, negligent or justified.
Victor Huerta, 33, was stabbed to death April 5 in a room at the Residence Inn, 1900 Dodge Rd. NE. Victoriano Dias-Barrera, 39, faces charges of first-degree murder, going armed with intent and assault with a dangerous weapon.
