CEDAR RAPIDS - An overnight fire in Glenbrook West Apartment displaced 20 occupants.
The fire started in one tenant's bathroom when she left a candle unattended in a medicine cabinet. Fire crews pulled apart the ceiling to check for fire extension and found flames above the bathroom and kitchen. Smoke filled the building and occupants were evacuated.
No one was injured but some people were treated for smoke inhalation.
While investigating, crews also discovered that a water pipe ruptured. Most of the damage is in the apartment where the fire started, but, three other apartments had water damage and parts of their ceilings removed. There was some smoke damage throughout the entire building.
The American Red Cross was called for assistance.
