A day before its postseason baseball opener Marion was still in search of a place to play Mount Pleasant. A place to practice after the 15-1 win is another story. That’s how this season has gone for the defending Class 3A state champions.
Marion freshman Grayson Kirsch had a feeling he would take the mound when he arrived at the field. He came through for the Wolves, retiring the last Cedar Rapisd Xavier nine batters in an 8-7 extra-inning win.
Marion’s Gage Franck raced home and slid safely just ahead of the tag on Myles Davis’ sacrifice fly to claim a 7-6 victory and the Class 3A state baseball title over Dubuque Wahlert. It is Marion’s first state baseball crown.
