Musicians who want to explore fusing Latin musical styles into their repertoire are invited to a free clinic and jam session with Grammy-winning Mexican-American band La Santa Cecilia on Monday.
The group performs many styles of music including cumbia, bossa nova and bolero. The band will start with a master class-style demonstration, followed by an open jam session.
The event, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, will be in the recital hall at West Music, 1212 Fifth St., Coralville.

The clinic is free and open to musicians of all abilities and is happening in partnership with Luchadores Immigrants in Iowa, Hancher, the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Participants are invited to bring their instruments or just attend to watch.
Luchadores Immigrants in Iowa is a photo documentary project by artist Miriam Alarcon Avila, exploring challenges Latino immigrants face as new Iowans; more information is available at facebook.com/LuchadoresInIowa.
La Santa Cecilia will give a full concert at Hancher, 141 E. Park Road, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $10 to $20 and available at hancher.uiowa.edu/2017-18/LaSantaCecilia.
As part of their residency, they also will give free mini-performances at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Center for Worker Justice, 940 S. Gilbert Court, Iowa City, at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Catlett Residence Hall, 350 N.
