CEDAR RAPIDS — Here’s a look at area Iowans in the minors and major leagues. These are players in affiliated professional baseball from Eastern Iowa and the University of Iowa.
A little bit of news since the last update. Former University of Iowa pitcher Nick Allgeyer recently was traded by the Philadelphia Phillies to the Houston Astros for cash. Allgeyer went from Triple-A Lehigh Valley of the International League to Triple-A Sugar Land of the Pacific Coast League.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller, the Cedar Rapids Xavier graduate, threw his first big league complete game and shutout this past week, as Pittsburgh beat Colorado, 2-0.
