Johnson supervisors will increase wages for elected officials
Raises range from 4 percent to 6.8 percent for fiscal 2024

IOWA CITY — The Johnson County Board of Supervisors will increase wages for elected officials from an earlier recommendation.
All elected officials will get at least a 4 percent raise for fiscal year 2024, which starts July 1. County employees are expected to get a 4 percent wage increase.
The county attorney will get a 6.4 percent increase; 4.8 percent increase for the sheriff and 4 percent for auditor, recorder, treasurer and the five supervisors.

The supervisors need to decrease the compensation board’s recommendation by an equal percentage, which is why it can’t be a 4 percent raise for all elected officials.
The compensation board in January recommended 10 percent wage increases for county employees: 16 percent for the county attorney, 12 percent increase for the sheriff, and 10 percent for the auditor, recorder, treasurer and five supervisors.
The wage hikes approved by the supervisors will amount to:
- County attorney: from $167,273 to $177,979
- Auditor, recorder, treasurer: from $121,361 to $126,215
- Supervisors: from $89,129 to $92,694
- Sheriff: from $170,113 to $178,278
During a work session earlier this month, Supervisor Lisa Green-Douglass said county wages have not kept up with inflation. She suggested a 4 percent wage increase for both elected officials and county employees, which the other supervisors agreed with.
The supervisors first discussed recommended wages for fiscal 2024 last month.
