CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department plans to open Bever Pool later this month after struggles to recruit lifeguards initially paused the opening of the city’s smaller pools.
Bever Pool, 2700 Bever Ave. SE, is slated to open June 27, according to a news release. The pool will be open from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. for lap swims and water walking, and from 1 to 5 p.m. for open swim through Aug. 6. Currently, Bever will not be open for lessons or evening swims.
The Parks and Recreation Department still needs to recruit more staff to open Jones and Ellis pools. The department needs at least 140 lifeguards to operate all outdoor pools and currently has 119 hired or in the process of training to work by June 27, according to the news release. Information for those interested in applying is available at governmentjobs.com/careers/cedarrapids/transferjobs.
Noelridge and Cherry Hill Aquatic Centers are open and offering swim lessons, lap swim/water walking, water exercise, family swim and afternoon and evening open swims. Schedules are available at bit.ly/CedarRapidsPools.
