You're never fully dressed without a smile

The other day my 72-year-old mother was walking into a Kwik Mart when two young men went in ahead of her. Instead of doing what I would hope most would do for the next person, regardless of age, which is to hold the door open for her, they let it shut in her face.
What has happened to us as a society? It takes three seconds to hold open a door for someone. Are your three seconds so precious you cannot do something for your fellow man, even if it does not yield you any tangible reward? Is it those same few seconds you feel the need to save when you cut someone off in traffic?
What happened to waving? Smiling? Helping someone or letting someone into traffic ahead of you on Boyson Road during rush hour? Let someone else have that closer parking spot, let the man with just three items in his cart ahead of you in line at the Walmart check out.

As a whole we have become wasteful, neglectful, unfeeling to someone we don't know, rude and in way too much of a hurry. The roses smell great, stop and take a whiff. Smile at someone in the store and for god's sake, get off that smartphone.
Annie was right, you're never fully dressed without a smile and to whomever reads this, you and your smile are beautiful. If no one else tells you this, I value you. Be safe.
