Our local, employee-owned newspaper, The Gazette, is still here after 140 years, when so many newspapers in Iowa and other states are not. This is no small feat.
I hear grumbles about delivery, editorials, and the national columnists. But whether I like everything printed, I support our local, professional journalists who report on what is happening in our community, state and state house. Times are tough for newsrooms. The press has been removed from the Iowa Senate floor to reduce their access to what is happening during debates about bills, and the governor doesn't hold news conferences unless she is promoting her agenda. Times are tough for families and their budgets, too. But think of what we lose each time a local news source ceases to exist. I encourage you to continue your support of this independent news source with your subscription.
