I dedicated over 40 years of my life to Linn County Conservation and continue to advocate for the preservation of Linn County’s and Iowa’s natural resources. Our community made a historic investment in 2016 with the overwhelming passage of the Linn County Water and Land Legacy bond. Unfortunately, while the commitment to water quality is prioritized here, I am concerned about the adverse effects of upstream pollution on the work we’ve done to protect our waters. We need a whole-state approach to the water quality crisis we experience across Iowa. Austin Frerick will bring that advocacy to the Iowa Senate and protect the investment our community made.
According to Erin Jordan’s recent article in The Gazette, the DNR has issued building permits for concentrated animal feeding operations in flood plains at least seven times since 2003. As the senator for District 37, Austin will work to enforce the law barring these polluters from building their operations in flood plains. With his plan to adequately fund Iowa’s DNR and eliminate tax breaks for industrial animal facilities, Iowa can transition away from an agricultural system known nationally for polluting our waterways to one in concert with our goals to preserve the natural beauty and health of our streams, rivers and lakes.
Please support Austin Frerick for Senate District 37 in the Democratic primary on June 7.
