School funding should include a two-system solution

Guest columnist David Duer, Nov. 29, maligned public money going to private schools. He notes that we already have “school choice” and high quality public schools. He notes in the end of his column that he attended 12 years of Catholic schools and retired after teaching in public systems. I’d like him to expound on why he and his family chose a private school and high fees when high quality public schools were available.
One would think that wise people could come up with a two-system solution.
Duer assumes the tax money available to schools is fixed when we have a growing rainy day fund. Let’s use some of it. Ask the legislators and governor to shake it loose.

Coincidentally, private school parents also pay taxes in addition to supporting public schools.
