Radical liberal, socialist, coastal elite are just a few of the names my congresswoman has called me since she took office. What she has failed to call me is her constituent and a voter. As a constituent and a voter, I am calling on U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson to stop the partisan political divisiveness and start working for Iowans. Our recent local elections show voters are concerned about our communities. We’re tired of extremists trying to push a political agenda on our students, teachers, staff and city councils.
Hinson talks a lot about fighting for Iowans and kitchen table issues. What Iowans is she fighting for? Whose kitchen table issues? What is one piece of legislation Hinson has supported that benefits those in her district? Expanding the child tax credit, she voted no. Protecting voting rights, she voted no. Protecting workers’ right to unionize, she voted no. Investing in infrastructure, she voted no.
Instead of looking to Virginia as a bellwether for the 2022 elections, maybe Hinson should look to local races in Decorah, Dubuque, Waterloo, and Cedar Rapids. The majority of voters showed up to support candidates who will work for us and address real issues, not manufactured distractions meant to divide. Their votes showed they are tired of Hinson’s daily social media posts with misinformation meant only to deceive and divide.
