Reading newspaper part of morning ritual

Guest columnist Sara McDermott really impressed me through her column regarding “What if all the newspapers went away?” (titled “TV news format not appealing,” Sept. 30).

We (my husband and I) obviously are of the computer age, not young, but in our 60s and willing to progress. However, possibly having to give up our morning ritual of sitting together early in the mornings reading and discussing the paper is not something we want to give up.

Sitting in front of a computer screen is not the way we want to start the day, alone, and scrolling down, page after page, unable to as McDermott stated, “throw it across the room when one doesn't agree with the editorials.”

Also, our televised news is becoming more irritating than informative. As McDermott stated, it is becoming more show business than substance. The public need to voice their concerns to the media, if any care so much.

The path to the future trend is not very encouraging, unless we hold our ground, and not allow a certain few to change what has been good for more years than the present (format).
