U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson is attempting to label Liz Mathis as liberal.
It is the same play from the political playbook where an elected official resorts to labeling and name-calling when a strong candidate’s legislative effectiveness and favorability threatens their party.
Many Republicans have become too extreme. Hinson has refused to work across the aisle to get things done for Iowans and that’s why this lifelong Republican is voting for Democrat Liz Mathis for U.S. Congress.
I watched Liz on the TV for nearly 30 years where she asked hard-hitting questions of politicians, including Republican U.S. Congressman Tom Tauke, when I chaired his campaign.
I got to know Liz best through my work with the Old Farts Electric volunteers repairing homes together after the 2008 flood. Although Liz and I don’t agree on every issue, I like that she brings legislators from both sides together and is a moderate, not a liberal.
I appreciated Liz’s vote for a commercial property tax cut and lowering Iowans’ tax burden by voting for both earned income and child tax credits. Other “Moderate Mathis” stances include supporting Second Amendment rights, fixing the broken immigration system and calling out Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan for not fixing the root cause of college affordability and not addressing important skills training required for trades, like electricians
Liz Mathis has shown she’s not just going to toe the party line, has a track record of working hard and delivering for Iowans and will better serve us in Congress.
