Letter: Support the Iowa City schools bond issue
Mary Mascher
Aug. 29, 2017 1:00 am
I proudly voted yes for the Iowa City Community School bond issue this week.
I supported the bond for three reasons. Our students deserve an equal opportunity to a quality education in all of our buildings both old and new. Air conditioning is a necessity in this day and age and all students should have access to a comfortable healthy learning environment. Our teachers deserve adequate space to teach our students as the district enrollment continues to grow each year. Temporary classrooms are not the answer when trying to provide equity for all students.
Our community deserves state-of-the-art schools at all grade levels as we prepare our students for the workplace of tomorrow. This includes ADA accessible buildings and school security systems that protect all students.

For me this bond issue always has been about equity. I support the Facilities Master Plan and the 20 remaining projects that need our support.
You can avoid the lines on election day by voting early at the auditor's office.
Please vote yes for our students, our teachers, and our community.
