Governor’s education plan sacrifices needs of many for needs of few

It’s baffling to me that polls indicate that the majority of Iowans support a woman’s right to choose, gun safety laws, and support for public education, yet we just elected a governor who supports none of these. We read in news reports that her first effort will be to get legislation passed that will put Iowa tax dollars to vouchers, thereby reducing funding for our public schools. She uses the word “choice” in her public announcements.
Most of us are aware that Iowa was once a leader in the nation. When the Governor took office, we were ranked 8th and are current ranking is now in the range of 23rd to 25th. She claims that no child should be forced into failing schools yet has done next to nothing that would promote their improvement. Rural schools and communities will likely be hit hardest. The question that I have never heard answered is whether you would sacrifice the education of so many children across the state for the benefit of the few.
I have never met a teacher or a school that doesn’t believe that parents matter. It’s simply disingenuous to claim otherwise. Please reach out to your representatives if you want to know where they stand on the issue.
