Government enables ethanol, green energy agenda

I appreciated Kim Hagemann's recent column exposing the bad side of ethanol (“Crops are for food, not fuel” April 20) but I believe she is missing the point.
The problem is that the government is manipulated by industry to benefit the best lobbying efforts and attract election donors. This is exposed when she says the future lies in electric vehicles, sun, and wind.
We did not develop into the most desirable destination on earth for productive people by having business direct government to steal our freedom through ethanol mandates or green energy subsidies. We got here by having a government that, mostly, has protected the fruits of our labor from such cronyism.

Government should step aside and let the market work instead of rewarding schemers promoting ideas that will not work without ripping off the rest of us using claims of patriotism or environmental righteousness.
The government has become simply a larger version of the common criminals we read about in The Gazette.
