High school robotics teams head to state
FIRST Tech Challenge teams design, build, program and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge

CORALVILLE — High school students across the state competed over the weekend at the FIRST Tech Challenge Iowa Championship in Coralville.
FIRST Tech Challenge teams are students of up to 15 members in grades seventh through 12th. The teams design, build, program and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge.
The students are guided by adult coaches and mentors. Students develop skills in science, technology, engineering and math while working hard, innovating and collaborating.

Almost 50 teams competed over the weekend, including Metro High School STEAM Academy, Marion Independent School District, Xavier High School and Iowa City Community School District.
