DES MOINES — National FFA Organization members from across Iowa converged on the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines to build character and promote citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism. More than 600 high school students wearing blue corduroy from 100 schools visited the Iowa State Capitol Building in Des Moines on Jan. 31.
While in Des Moines, the Clear Creek Amana National FFA Organization Chapter toured the Hall of Laureates and the World Food Prize Foundation. While at the Hall, the students learned about the rich history of Dr. Norman Borlaugh, an Iowa farm kid from Cresco who ended up saving the world from starvation through the Green Revolution.
The students met with former Iowa Gov. Terry Brandstad and Ambassador Kenneth Quinn from the World Food Prize Foundation. While meeting with these Iowa leaders, they spoke to the Clear Creek Amana students about the importance of having ways and means to transport the Iowa’s Agriculture Commodities and the importance of keeping the doors open to all opportunities.

Quinn encouraged the students to lead by example and embrace the challenges that might lay ahead of them. Great Iowa people rely on great young leaders.
The students visited with legislators, exhibited skills learned in the agriculture classroom and learned the importance of citizenship. This was all part of the 38th Annual Iowa National FFA Organization Legislative Symposium and National FFA Organization Day at the Capitol.
The Clear Creek Amana students also spent time with Senators Dawn Driscoll, Heather Hora and Brad Sherman. The Annual Iowa National FFA Organization Legislative Symposium and National FFA Organization Day at the Capitol was made possible with support from Iowa Farm Bureau Federation through the Iowa National FFA Organization Foundation.
