OXFORD — The Clear Creek Amana school board has appointed Joseph Brown Sr. as interim superintendent starting Aug. 1.
Brown, a native of Clinton, was most recently superintendent of the Fairmont Area Schools Independent School District in Fairmont, Minn.
“I am really excited about serving as the interim superintendent of the Clear Creek Amana School District for the next 11 months,” Brown said in a statement.
“This is a great time for public education,” he said. “Our students deserve access to quality education delivered in a physically and psychologically safe environment.
“I am aware that CCA is a rapidly growing district. This provides positive challenges for the entire district to be flexible in providing relevant and rigorous education for all students.”
Tim Kuehl, superintendent of Clear Creek Amana schools since 2013, left the district July 1 to become superintendent of the East Union and Murray school districts in Afton and Murray in southwest Iowa.
“My eight years as part of CCA have been a great experience. We have accomplished so many great things for our students,” Kuehl said earlier this year.
At Fairmont, Brown was instrumental in passing a $6.7 million bond issue in February to expand a Vocational Trades Academics Building, according to a Clear Creek Amana district news release.
The Fairmont district has 1,700 students and a teaching and support staff of 250.
Clear Creek Amana, with 2,828 students, has schools in Tiffin, Middle Amana, North Liberty and Oxford.
Brown has 27 years as a public school administrator, 16 of them as a superintendent. He was one of four candidates for the interim position.
The Clear Creek Amana school board decided in June to appoint an interim superintendent for the upcoming school year. The board will be working with the Ray & Associates search firm this fall to fill the superintendent’s job.
