Iowa’s Republican U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst said Wednesday they support U.S. military aid to Ukraine, though Grassley cautioned against starting World War III.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds’ delivery of the Republican Party’s response to Democratic President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address received passing remarks from a trio of experts on Iowa politics. “I thought Gov. Reynolds did a very nice job,” one said.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds was the perfect choice to tell Iowa’s story to the nation because she can talk about tax cuts and moving faster than most to re-open businesses and schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. Or she was the wrong choice because she has overseen a national, political agenda that is unfriendly to Iowans. It’s all in the eye of the beholder.
In a Feb. 15 news release, Sen. Joni Ernst criticized a federal harm reduction program, which would provide $30 million in grants funded by the American Rescue Plan to increase access to services and support to reduce drug overdoses and other public health challenges associated with drug use.

The bill — which provides a 2.7 percent increase in military basic pay — also includes changes to how the military prosecutes certain crimes like sexual assault, although members of Iowa’s GOP delegation says it does not go far enough.
