Week 2 high school football roundup: Beau Cornwell leads West Branch past West Burlington

Beau Cornwell did just about everything but sell popcorn, leading West Branch to a 30-6 road victory over Class 3A West Burlington/Notre Dame in a prep football game Friday night.
The large offensive line of the Bears imposed its will early as the Bears gained more than 250 yards in the first half.
Cornwell, a junior, passed for 194 yards, rushed for another 20 and kicked three field goals for the Bears. He also had three punts downed inside the 10-yard line.

West Branch (2-0) led 23-0 at halftime, limiting the Falcons to just one first down in the first 24 minutes.
'We are please with this effort,' Coach Butch Pedersen said. 'Beating a 3A team on the road is a springboard for us going into district play next week against Jesup.'

DECORAH 14, CRESTWOOD 6 — Decorah's defense held Crestwood to just 59 rushing yards in a win at home.
Dawson Holkesvik scored on a 36-yard run for the Vikings on the first possession of the game and a Kailer McCabe added a 3-yard TD run in the fourth.

WESTERN DUBUQUE 34, DYERSVILLE BECKMAN 21 — Carver Conway rushed 25 times for 204 yards and two touchdowns, and Kyle Cleary had eight receptions for 111 yards and a score as Western Dubuque outlasted Beckman in what could be the final game in the rivalry for the near future.
The difference in enrollment numbers, with the Bobcats in Class 4A and Beckman in 2A, stems as the main reason.
Western Dubuque (2-0) won its fourth straight over Beckman, its ninth victory over the past 11 meetings. The Blazers last beat the Bobcats in 2013.
Owen Grover led Beckman (1-1) with 65 yards rushing and a touchdown receiving. Nathan Funke rushed for two touchdowns.

WAVERLY-SHELL ROCK 27, NORTH FAYETTE VALLEY 7 — Waverly-Shell Rock's defense was up to the challenge and quarterback Luke Velky passed for 101 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 94 and two more scores at home.
Jace Burrow finished with 55 yards on 10 carries and fullback Zach Massman added 81 yards on 23 rushes for a North Fayette Valley team that dropped to 0-2.

MONTICELLO 41, CAMANCHE 20 — Max Keleher rushed for 222 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers won on the road.
Jacob Manternach completed 9 of 16 passes for 192 yards.

SPRINGVILLE 58, MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT 14 — Henry Hoogland rushed for 148 yards and five touchdowns as the Orioles rolled at home.
Kyle Koppes passed for 130 yards, including a TD to Zach March. March finished with 73 receiving yards. Caleb Weber added 57 receiving yards, seven tackles and a sack.
WAUKON 28, NEW HAMPTON 20 — Abraham Schwartz scored a six-yard touchdown run with 6:56 remaining and Evan Armstead converted the two-point conversion as the Indians won at New Hampton.
The Chickasaws were held to minus-three yards rushing in the second half.
ANAMOSA 46, MAQUOKETA 20 — Matthew Walton passed for 173 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 67 yards and two TDs as the Raiders held off Maquoketa at home.
Logan Seeley added 15 rushes for 129 yards and scored on a 65-yard run on the first play of the game.
Down 32-7, Maquoketa rallied behind quarterback Nicholas Ehlinger, who completed 23 of 34 passes for 233 yards and a TD.

WACO 53, TRI-COUNTY 14 — Colton Horak had two touchdown receptions, one rushing touchdown and kicked a field goal to lead the Warriors to a win at Thornburg.
Nik Coble was 4-for-4 with three touchdowns and 115 yards passing for WACO.
Brayden Monroe led the Trojans with two rushing touchdowns.
