CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa men's basketball team has picked up a verbal commitment from an in-state prep player.
Garner-Hayfield-Ventura forward James Betz said on Twitter late Thursday afternoon he will play college ball for the Panthers. UNI Coach Ben Jacobson retweeted Betz's tweet.
Betz is a 6-foot-7 junior-to-be who averaged 12.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this past season for GHV, which was 23-2 and qualified for the state tournament. He also had 47 blocked shots.
