CLARENCE - The end of the football season came early for senior Bryce Bemer.
Bemer broke his fibula while playing against Lisbon on Cornell College's field in Mount Vernon.
Sports injuries seem to be part of an athlete's woes of a season. The recovery can be long and cause them to miss not only a football season, but - as in Bemer's case - also the basketball season.
When playing running back, Bemer's foot got caught in the turf and a Lisbon player landed on it. Bemer had seven screws and a plate in his leg to repair the injury.
Recovery of his fibula began in a wheelchair when he was able to return to his classes. Though Bemer missed practicing and playing football with his friends, he was able to join them on the sideline in his wheelchair.
After a long recovery, Bemer should still be able to recover fast enough for track season.
Although Bemer was disappointed to miss his senior football season, he is most excited about graduating and moving on to the next chapter in his life.
'The memories I have from football will last me,” he said.
