Kennedy, Prairie to host regional duals

As teams prepare for the postseason, the path to the state duals tournament has become clear.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the regional duals sites for all classes and pairings for Class 3A on Thursday. Classes 1A and 2A will compete Tuesday, Feb. 9, while 3A will wrestle Wednesday, Feb. 10. Regional dual champions will advance to the state duals tournament Feb. 17 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Cedar Rapids Prairie and Cedar Rapids Kennedy will host regionals.

The sixth-ranked Hawks will face the winner of No. 14 North Scott and No. 23 Ottumwa. Prairie is trying to reach the state duals for the fifth straight season and 16th overall.

No. 7 Kennedy will take on the winner between 13th-ranked Clinton and No. 20 Iowa City High. The Cougars are looking for their fifth state duals berth and first since 2004.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson, ranked ninth, faces No. 24 West Des Moines Dowling in a semifinal dual at No. 5 Johnston.

No. 11 Western Dubuque and No. 19 Iowa City West will wrestle at Waverly with the winner advancing to the final against No. 8 Waverly-Shell Rock.

Linn-Mar, ranked 18th, drew No. 16 Bettendorf. The winner will wrestle No. 4 Dubuque Hempstead.

The pairings for 1A and 2A will be determined after sectional competition.

Second-ranked Lisbon, No. 3 Alburnett and No. 19 Sigourney will host 1A regional duals.

In Class 2A, sixth-ranked Independence, No. 7 Washington and 12th-ranked Mount Vernon will host regional duals.
