Iowa high school softball regional finals: Monday's 1A, 2A, 3A scores and coverage

The first 24 berths in the 2019 Iowa high school state softball tournament were awarded Monday night as regional finals take place in Classes 3A, 2A and 1A.
Here's a look at the final scores, plus area coverage. Regional finals are Tuesday night in 4A and 5A.

As zero after zero accumulated on the Bob Bunting Field scoreboard Monday night, doubt never entered the Lisbon Lions' minds.
Finally, in the 13th inning, their patience was rewarded.
Sam Schrantz punched a two-out single into left field on a full count, and Reegan Happel ran home from third to send No. 2 Lisbon back to the state softball tournament with a 1-0 victory over No. 11 Belle Plaine in a Class 1A regional final.

North Linn proved the third time is a charm when it comes to qualifying for the state softball tournament.
Abby Flanagan notched her 15th strikeout to quash Saint Ansgar's brief seventh-inning rally and powered top-ranked North Linn to a 5-3 victory in the Class 2A Region 7 final Monday night at home.

When a three-run lead became one after five innings, Robin Brand considered handing the ball to a relief pitcher.
In the end, the Mount Vernon softball coach stuck by senior Amanda Roe, and Roe made sure her coach's faith paid off in a big way.
Roe (13-9) breezed through the first four innings by allowing just two hits and no runs with four strikeouts as the Mustangs built a 3-0 lead. After the aforementioned two-run fifth inning, Roe allowed three more hits over the final two frames, but no more runs.

Those weren't limousines. Those were fire trucks the West Liberty Comets boarded.
Make history, and you get lights and sirens.
Fourth-ranked West Liberty jumped on No. 8 Anamosa early and coasted to a 7-2 victory in Monday's Class 3A softball regional final at West Liberty Elementary School.
