Iowa high school boys’ state golf results: Washington’s Roman Roth leads Class 3A field after Day 1

AMES — Washington (Iowa) junior Roman Roth shot a first-round 73 on Monday to take a one-stroke lead in the Class 3A boys’ state golf tournament.
Carter Lamont, a junior from Vinton-Shellsburg, shot a 76 and is in second place at Veenker Memorial Golf Course.
MOC-Floyd Valley holds the team lead with a 318.

The round of the day belonged to Grundy Center freshman Judd Jirovsky, who fired an 8-under 63 at the Class 2A tournament at Coldwater Golf Links.
Luke Harwick of Dyersville Beckman is second with an even-par 71 and Tristin Sorgenfry is third at 73. Grundy Center is the team leader with a 296, followed by Beckman at 306.
At the Class 1A meet at Ames Golf and Country Club, Dawson Barthole of Le Mars Gehlen has the first-round lead with a 74. Anita CAM’s Chase Jahde is second at 77 and Iowa City Regina’s Mikey Takacs is fourth at 77.
CAM is the team leader at 335, followed by Remsen St. Mary’s at 336. Montezuma and Hillcrest Academy are tied for third at 337.
All three tournaments wrap up Tuesday.
