Iowa City Regina promotes Jared Galpin to head boys’ basketball coach

May. 22, 2017 4:30 pm
IOWA CITY — Iowa City Regina announced Monday it will hire Jared Galpin as its new head varsity boys' basketball coach, pending school board approval.
Galpin replaces Stu Ordman, who recently took the head coaching job at the new Liberty High School in North Liberty. He has been an assistant at Regina under Ordman and Randy Larson for the past 10 years.
'After 10 years of being an assistant and a fourth-grade teacher, Jared knows all of our kids on the team and has built good relationships with them,' Regina Activities Director Ryan O'Hern said in a statement. 'He knows how to teach them, and he has previous head coaching experience. Jared is going to play an aggressive and uptempo style. It will be an exciting brand of basketball on both ends of the floor. The future is bright for his program.'

Galpin is a native of Ackley and a 2004 graduate of Iowa State. He was head coach at Paton-Churdan from 2004 to 2006 and also has previous assistant stints at Cedar Rapids Prairie and Jefferson-Scranton.
Regina was 13-9 last season and returns its top five leading scorers.
