IOWA CITY — It was a made-for-Hollywood storyline. And in July, filming will commence.
Casting has begun for 'Live Like Line,' which chronicles the tragic death of Caroline Found and Iowa City West's march to the 2011 state volleyball championship.
Award-winning actress Helen Hunt will play the part of former West coach Kathy Bresnahan.
'I've read the script, and I think they will do a great job creating details of the season,' Bresnahan said Tuesday. 'Our big goal was to protect the memory of Caroline, as well as all the other kids involved.'
David Aaron Cohen penned the script for LD Entertainment.
The movie is based upon Bresnahan's yet-to-be-published book, which tentatively has a title of 'West on 9,' Found's number.
Found, the starting setter for the 2010 championship team, died in a moped accident Aug. 11, 2011, just days before the start of her senior year.
The Women of Troy ultimately repeated as state champions, defeating Iowa City High in the championship match at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
Bresnahan has been told that the majority of the filming for the movie in Vancouver, Canada, though some 'outside shots' will be taken around Iowa City.
'They were (at the U.S. Cellular Center) for the state tournament (last November). They wanted to see what Iowa volleyball was all about,' Bresnahan said.
It's a Hollywood story, not a documentary, but Bresnahan is satisfied with the focus of the story.
'Everything that is in the book, that's important to me, they've got it in the script somewhere,' she said. 'They took some liberties with it and added some things, but I'm happy with it.'
Hunt, 52, has won four Emmys and four Golden Globes, plus the 1998 Academy Award for best actress in a leading role in the movie 'As Good As It Gets.'
'Obviously, she's an accomplished actress,' Bresnahan said. 'I'm a Helen Hunt fan. It's pretty cool.'
Bresnahan, 57, compiled a 671-205 record in 26 seasons — 22 at West and four at Benton (Wis.). She led West to eight state tournaments, including the back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. She resigned in 2014.
