CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids Kennedy girls’ and boys’ bowling teams swept the Valley division of the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament Thursday at Cherry Lanes in Dubuque.
The two squads dominated in slightly different ways. For the girls, Chloe Pierce (433 — 165-268) and Kaylee Harris (428 — 191-237) finished first and second, respectively, as the Cougars (2,777) held off second-place Dubuque Senior (2,745) for the title.
On the boys’ side, consistency was key for Kennedy (3,213); the Cougars individually finished second (Lucas Dolphin, 471), third (Dakota Harris, 455), fourth (Alex Hume, 452), seventh (Colton Musil, 439) and eighth (Jaxon Robinson, 431) to pull away from runner-up Dubuque Senior (3,024).
The Cedar Rapids Bowling Center hosted the Mississippi Division meet, with Dubuque Wahlert taking the team title on the boys’ side, led by top-scoring individual Will Kamentz (523).
Iowa City High (2,796) finished third, with Carson Reid (456) earning fourth place individually.
Cedar Rapids Prairie (2,763) finished fifth, with Teagan Merta rolling a 501 for second-place honors. Linn-Mar (2,760) finished sixth, led by Calix Carpenter’s 407, which was good for eighth place.
Cedar Falls claimed the championship on the girls’ side, with Anna Frahm (434) finishing second individually for the Tigers behind conference champion Anissa Droessler of Prairie, who rolled a 442 series.
Teams will wrap up their regular seasons over the next two weeks, with state qualifying matches held on Feb. 15 deciding the field for the state meet at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo on Feb. 21 (Class 1A), 22 (2A) and 23 (3A).
