Getting right into it.
Junior OT Brett Van Sloten talks about taking full advantage of his opportunity. He goes into fall as the No. 1 right tackle, but he'll be a first-year starter and he knows there is a lot of competition. He's taking nothing for granted.
Iowa OT Brandon Scherff talks about opportunity. That's sort of the theme with Iowa's OTs. Scherff and Brett Van Sloten will be in their first seasons as starting tackles. They're not looking over their shoulder at the competition, but they know there is some pressure. Plus, Scherff caught 50 crappies at a local pond on Wednesday.
Free safety Tanner Miller talks about learning on the job. Last season was his first as starter. He expects to build on that during his junior season. Also, DC Phil Parker has talked about being aggressive with press coverage. Miller would be the extra safety in the box (near the line of scrimmage).
DE Dominic Alvis was just getting comfortable at DE for the Hawkeyes last fall when he suffered a torn ACL in November. The play was a "punt safe." Totally benign. Alvis is back at 100 percent and is looking to plant a flag at one of the DE positions.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz speaks on the issues of the day.
Iowa WR Keenan Davis talks about getting the "big dog" numbers. You know, the kind Marvin McNutt got last season. Davis knows what's expected of him this season. He is the senior, he is the leading returning wide receiver. He know this is his time.
Jane Meyer, UI senior associate athletics director, guides a tour of Iowa's new indoor athletics facility. It's 102,000 square feet and it's substantial completion date is Aug. 21.
Jane Meyer, UI senior associate athletics director, shows the outside of Iowa's practice facility. This is where the Hawkeyes will practice on grass. If there is a need for FieldTurf, they'll head over to Kinnick Stadium.
