CEDAR RAPIDS — University of Iowa pitching coach Robin Lund is leaving the program to take a job as assistant pitching coach for the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Free Press reported Sunday.
Lund was with the Hawkeyes for five seasons, transforming Iowa into one of the top pitching teams in the Big Ten Conference. Iowa had three pitchers taken in the 2022 Major League Draft, including Adam Mazur, who went in the second round to the San Diego Padres.
Mazur and Trenton Wallace (now in the Toronto Blue Jays organization) were Big Ten Pitcher of the Year winners for Iowa in 2022 and 2021, respectively.

Lund has a Ph.D. in exercise science and was an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Northern Iowa from 2002 for 2018 before coming to Iowa. He was a volunteer assistant strength coach for Iowa head coach Rick Heller when Heller was head coach at UNI.
Lund is expected to be a leader in the sports science and biomechanics pitching aspects for the Tigers.
