Iowa's old guard lends support to current basketball squad (with PTL dunk videos)

NORTH LIBERTY - Standing-room only was stretched to its limits Sunday at the Prime Time League.

People scrunched together in claustrophobic levels in the nightcap of Sunday's action, mostly caused by Iowa basketball alumni. More than 20 former players crammed in to the North Liberty Recreation Center and stood to cheers when PTL Director Randy Larson introduced them.

"Everybody knows each other really well. It's kind of like a family when you play for Iowa basketball," said former Hawkeye Adam Haluska. "It doesn't matter if you played for Coach (Steve) Alford or Coach (Tom) Davis. It's like a fraternity to come back and socialize and just try to strengthen Iowa basketball alumni.

"I think it's good for everybody to get together and support this program and get to know one another and stay in touch."

The players spanned different eras such as those who played for Lute Olson in the early 1980s like Bobby Hansen, Greg Stokes and Steve Krafcisin, the late-1980s for Davis like Roy Marble and Wade Lookingbill, and recent alumni like Haluska, Luke Recker, Greg Brunner, Cyrus Tate and Jarryd Cole.

The alumni also plan to meet for golf on Monday.

"I think it's a been a feeling of a bunch of different guys, it's hey, everybody needs to get together," Haluska said. "You've got the Chris Street golf outing, you've got some things that happen over the winter. It's just a good time to get together for a little golf over the summer."
